Dee Alexander
A west side resident, Dee Alexander is among the premier vocalists and songwriters in American music today, and one of Chicago's most gifted and respected artists. She gravitated toward jazz at an early age and names her mentor saxophonist Henry Huff as a great influence who encouraged her to take risks and cross boundaries. She studied voice and music theory at the AACM School of Music. Awards: 2020 City of Chicago Individual Esteemed Artist Grant; 2012 Jazz recipient of the 3Arts; State of IL Jesse White Award for Music Arts; Best Singer of Chicago in July 2009 issue-Chicago Magazine; 2008 Chicago Tribune Chicagoan of the Year. She is currently collaborating with guitarist John McLean on a project of original material and a children’s book/cd about music. Ms. Alexander’s aim is to inspire future generations to use music as a tool to express their creativity and to encourage them to not only use it in an art form but throughout the art of living.
Miguel de la Cerna
Pianist Miguel de la Cerna was born on the south side of Chicago. He has been immersed and inspired since his start in the stew of jazz, blues, gospel, R&B soul of the south side that is known and celebrated throughout the world.
About the Performance
Together they blend the music of both communities to create a sound that is truly the sound of Chicago.
