José Alfredo is an educator and musician who grew up in Chicago's La Villita neighborhood. A graduate of DePaul University’s School of Music (BM ‘11) he is a founding member of Madera Once, a four-piece band that pays tribute to Mexican-regional and traditional music with a contemporary spin.

José Alfredo is an educator and musician who grew up in Chicago's La Villita neighborhood. A graduate of DePaul University’s School of Music (BM ‘11) he is a founding member of Madera Once, a four-piece band that pays tribute to Mexican-regional and traditional music with a contemporary spin. Madera Once's mission is to keep Mexican and Latin American music alive as it forges a new identity through the musician and audiences within the United States. Madera Once has had the privilege of playing throughout Chicago, most notably in September 2019 they opened for La Santa Cecilia at the Concord Theater. They recently released their debut EP: amado. José Alfredo is also the co-host of Joséfina Podcast alongside his mother. Joséfina Podcast is a Spanglish-language podcast dedicated to collecting Josefina's stories and lived experiences in an attempt to connect cross generationally through story-telling on topics such as identity, feminism, race, and current events.
